Lot 4380 18th CENTURY SPIKED TOMAHAWK.

This style weapon is iconic and associated in Revolutionary War & French and Indian Wars. Modern interpretations in recent movies from Last of the Mohicans show very similar weapons. Last of the Mohicans is set in 1750s, and similar weapons have been excavated in battle sites. This early weapon has original vintage haft, head is forged and not cast like most examples seen in auction. Head is 8.25" from spike point to 3" wide cutting edge. CONDITION: very good overall, hand worn patina to haft, head cleaned and toned patina with forging flaws, file marks, pitting. PROVENANCE: James R. Johnston collection. (02-26017/JS).
